![]() If you have had issues with your Chevrolet Equinox in recent years, you are not the only one out there. When the check engine light goes on, sometimes the car can lose power, causing dangerous conditions, not to mention the hassle of bringing your car to the dealership to see if something is wrong. In addition, the Equinox is plagued with check engine light problems that result in an unreasonable amount of repairs. In recent years, complaints made with The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have included issues involving the engine, fuel/propulsion system, suspension, electrical system, and exterior lighting, to name a few. Though it has a strong track record in safety, the Chevrolet Equinox has still seen complaints from consumers over the years. Back in 2018, there were three recalls involving service brakes, fuel system, and window glass visibility. In 2019, there were three recalls for Chevrolet Equinox vehicles involving service brakes, fuel system, and seats. Second, there was a recall regarding the power train, where certain 2018 to 2020 Equinox vehicles were recalled because the start/stop accumulator could have missing bolts that may cause a transmission oil leak, which could then ultimately cause an enhanced risk of accident or fire. First, there was a recall of certain 2021 Equinox vehicles due to an issue with seat belts, where the wrong bolts were possibly used which could cause the seat belt to not be properly attached. This is in addition to a pair of recalls from 2020. Most recently, there was a recall of specific 2021-2022 Equinox vehicles due to their tires, which may have been made in a manner that could ultimately lead to tread separation. Yet despite its popularity, there are some issues that have arisen with the Equinox in recent years that could be a cause of frustration for vehicle owners. The Equinox has continued to grow in popularity since its introduction back in 2005, and over the years has been met with praise from critics and consumers alike. The Equinox and Terrain come standard with front-wheel drive, a nine-speed automatic transmission, a 1.5-liter powerplant and 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment.Įven the range-topping Denali trim level features the aforementioned 1.5er, a rather underwhelming engine susceptible to issues like turbocharger failure, fluctuating oil pressure, oil dilution, and cracked or melted pistons. The sole engine available produces 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet (275 Nm) of torque.Last year, the Chevrolet Equinox was the seventh best selling vehicle in the nation-as the midsize crossover was the second most popular model made by Chevrolet. Over at GMC, the General Motors brand that once specialized exclusively in trucks now offers the Terrain at $29,900 sans the $1,395 destination freight charge. Slotted between the $22,100 Trailblazer and $35,100 Blazer, the compact-sized crossover promises up to 31 miles per gallon (7.6 liters per 100 kilometers) on the highway and 63.9 cubic feet (1,809 liters) of max cargo capacity with the rear seats folded into the floor. ![]() The third-generation Equinox is currently listed on Chevrolet’s website at $26,600, excluding destination charge. Owners will be notified no later than March 3rd, although it remains to be seen if sufficient replacement fuel pumps will be made available by then. Parts aren’t currently available, though. Affected 20 models were produced from June 2021 to December 2021 for the Equinox and June 2021 to February 2022 for the more expensive GMC crossover.ĭealers have already been instructed to replace the fuel pump module with new units produced outside of the supplier’s suspect window.
